Hi:

I'm not sure what you mean by "educated" answers, but I can tell you that we hold the same views the Jehovah's Witnesses hold, namely that Jesus died on a "stake" or single beam of timber and NOT a "cross beam" of 2 pieces of timber, as commonly taught within religions today. -- Acts 5:30

The Greek word stau-ros, is the one that is translated "cross" in many bibles of our time. This is the expression used in connection with the execution of Jesus at Calvary. There is no evidence that the Greek word stau-ros meant here a "cross" such as the pagans used as a religious symbol for many centuries before Christ to denote the sun-god.

In the classical Greek the word stau-ros meant merely an upright stake or pale, or a pile such as is used for a foundation. The verb stau-ro-o meant to fence with pales to form a stockade or palisade, and this is the verb used when the job called for Jesus to be impaled. To such a stake or pale the person to be punished was fastened, just as when the popular Greek hero Prometheus was represented as tied to a stake or stauros. The Greek word which the dramatist Aeschylus used to describe this means to fasten or fix on a pole or stake, to impale and te Greek author Lucian used anastauroo as a synonym for that word. In the Christian Greek Scriptures anastauroo occurs but once, at Hebrews 6:6. The root verb stauroo occurs more than 40 times, and it is rendered as "impale," in the New World Translation bible, with the footnote: "Or, fasten on a stake or pole." -- See 1969 edition The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures page 1155 under subject "torture stake."

Of course, our forum here on this discussion board is NOT set up for debate on biblical matters like trinity, hellfire and the cross. In fact, we refrain from debate on any biblical topic. (1 Timothy 2:8 ) However, if after reading the above, you still feel you have more questions on this subject, or wish to perhaps debate the veracity of the above information presented by myself, I believe you will find that there is ample evidence the Jehovah's Witnesses have at their disposal, that they would be happy to share with you to help you get to the bottom of this. :)

Hope this helps.
