Appreciation for the Spiritual Food
Dear YORWW Congregation-
I received The "Report" not too long ago, and I just wanted to say how I am enjoying reading this information.
After some 28 years of attending the KH, and waiting for some "new light" to shine forth, I have somehow found out about this website and ordered the book. I started to read it and find it most interesting and the scriptures are there to support what is being said. I still have a long way to go, but I just wanted to say I have really been excited about the new explanation of scriptures, and it makes perfect sense. I am just constantly amazed! I am reading with several of my friends, and we discuss things. We are all amazed at how these scriptures could be there in the Bible and for years we never knew it. They are being revealed now...Praise Jehovah!!!
Agape,
Littleleslie

Yes, we are just as amazed as you, since we all came to understand these verses so differently, at the kingdom hall. All praises rightfully go to Jehovah God, our Grand Instructor. -- Isaiah 30:20, 21
As Acts 8:30, 31 shows, we will be more than happy to act as your tour "guide" thru these deep, yet healing, living waters of Almighty God, the true Source of all Truth.
Remember, we are here for you, if you need us...thanks again, for joining us at LWF Discussion Board.

To Hamza: Greetings!
Wonderful to have you back with us, at LWF. Also glad things are working out about your employment situation.
BTW, we have a number of people here who reside in Minnesota. Several here. Mind mentioning exactly where in the fine state of Minnesota that you reside?
Also, I noticed in your profile, that "jazz" music was a favorite of yours? Really? Me too...
...Do you play a musical instrument?
....just wondering.
Great to have you back with us!

Greetings Don,
I live in Corcoran, which is west of Minneapolis, I'd say right about where the suburbs end. There are farms and a golf course near me, but Corcoran may end up a "suburb" of Minneapolis in a decade or two.
I have been a Jazz fan since I was 5 or 6 years old (about 40 years) and my favorite instrument is Saxophone, especially the Tenor Sax. I've played since I was 14, but very little the last 6 years or so. In my teens and twenties, I was mostly interested in Swing and Bop and Cool, but these days I listen to as much 60's and early 70's jazz as the earlier styles. Thus, on the one hand I like Tenor Saxists Illinois Jacquet, Lester Young, and Flip Phillips and Wardell Gray (especially after my father introduced me to Norman Granz JATP early on), but I also like Rahsaan Roland Kirk and John Coltrane (especially the middle period) and Sonny Rollins. I listened to those tenor sax players when I was younger, too, but not regularly. My favorite Jazz concert was seeing Ella Fitgerald in 1974 (with trumpeter Roy Eldridge playing the openning set with her trio). Afterwards, I got to go back stage and talk to her and pianist Tommy Flanagan. Ella "forgot the words" in her concert that night, too.
Don, what kind(s) of Jazz and which artists do you like?
JHWH bless,
Philip

Hi Hamza,
Oh, I like a broad range of jazz artists over the years, myself. I'm fond of saxophone artists too, like yourself, since so many dominant the jazz era of music, especially since Charley Parker (alto saxophonist) days.
Though I delve in the past with artists from years gone by, I also like some of the more modern artists, with contemporary styles of Jazz fusion like Grover Washington Jr, Jay Beckinstein (lead Sax in Spyro Gyra) and Kenny "G" (Gorelike) who often times highlite the soprano sax, a very beautiful sound to me.
It seems, my favorite jazz group would be the "Yellowjackets." They have been around for more than 2 decades now, winning many accolades in the field of jazz, in America and abroad. I have acquired many of their albums, tapes and cds over the years.
But really, I am a keyboard player. So I especially like to hear artists who play this instrument, like Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, Chic Corea, George Duke, and especially Jeff Lorber [his approach & style is one that I tried to emulate] and many others. In fact, I just recently acquired a cd released by an artist who introduced Miles Davis to the synthesizer sounds in the 80s, Jason Miles being his name. The cd is entitled: "Miles to Miles"... a sort of personal rendition of what this particular artist thinks Miles Davis would be playing today, if he were alive. Interesting concept.
I've been a student of "jazz improvisation" for many years now, since I was introduced to the music back in 1969. Before that, I had formal training by private tutor, in the classics, for 8 years, between the ages of 8 to 16 years of age. Since 1969, I've tried to learn as much as I could learn, on my own about jazz, in its various forms and nuances. And even now, from time to time, I get the opportunity to "teach" elementary jazz improvisation and theory to select individuals who live in my area and demonstate a special aptitude for this sort of thing. The opportunity does come around, but it is rare, in this "neck-of-the-words" (Alabama).

Hi Don,
Things would have turned out better for me if I had taken piano lessons before taking up the Tenor Sax. Probably every musician should start out on piano or some kind of keyboard. Also, the classical training would have put you ahead of the game, too.
Oscar Peterson is one of my favorite pianists. I have something on cassette by Spyro Gyra, but I've only heard Grover Washington Jr. and Kenny G in passing. Herbie Hancock wrote a song thats a household favorite here: Watermelon Man. I have several versions, but the Mongo Santamaria version is the one the family likes the most.
As for Charlie Parker, in my late teens I once decided I needed to own everything available by him. Thankfully, I didn't have the money to go down that road. As I remember, a number of fine Jazz musicians have come from Alabama, but times have changed. Walmart up here doesn't even have a Jazz section. You can find a handful of Jazz artists in the "easy listening" section.
Anyway, I could talk about Jazz all day, but I ought to start responding to other sections of the forum.
JHWH bless,
Hamza

Hello MDS and Hamza,
You guys are bringing back so many old memories as my mother loved jazz. Growing up I remember looking at the album covers
and listening to Nat King Cole, Johnny Coltrain, Ella Fitgerald, Shiela Jorden (not sure of spelling, lol), Count Basie, Chic Corea, Tony Bennet, and many others. She always love to listen to the sax played.
Oh boy, now I really feel old, lol.

Hi Mary...oh, you are not getting old...I'm the one getting old, I think...LOL
But anyway, yes I'd have to agree, music is one of Yah's greatest gifts to mankind. Just think, God created 12 different tones, which when properly arranged, can all blend together in such wonderous sounds, dimensions and yet, all differently expressed in all genres, styles and classifications of sound...into what we call M...U...S...I...C.
Its just like Hamza said, we could talk all day about the wonders of Music, the blending of those fantastic 12 tones, harmonically expressed to please the ear. No doubt, from a worldwide perspective, music is one of the many Grand Gifts of God to mankind.
And what's more, because we wish to please Him in all things, "seek first his righteousness" and "seek first his kingdom", and we wholeheartedly want to worship him the way he wishes, Jehovah God the Almighty Himself has held the hope of everlasting life to all obedient mankind. Just think of all of the joys and happinesses to be enjoyed by all then -- when all forms of music will be heard from all parts of the earth, in joyous harmony. (Matthew 6:33) Yes, that glorious day is not too far off indeed...Praise Jah!

Gaining real Truth!
Hello Littleleslie,
First of all, thank you for your wonderful post of deep appreciation. It shows that you are learning much!!! When one starts to learn real truth then it becomes like Satan is falling like a star...much like Jesus stated at Luke 10:18.
Sounds like your trip is going well.
And you are sharing all that you are learning with family members. I pray for your continued success with this.
Yes, I hope others will use this knowledge to free themselves and others with this life-giving message too!
Talk to when you get back! Say "hello" to littlemissie too!
Love,
Mary
